Rep. Ted Yoho resigns from Christian charity board
The move comes after Yoho's heated exchange with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Florida Congressman Ted Yoho has stepped down from his position with the Christian organization, Bread for the World, following a heated exchange with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Chris Ford, the deputy director for strategic communications and campaigns for Bread for the World, confirmed that Congressman Yoho resigned from his board position last Friday, according to CNN.
Bread for the World is a charity organization aimed at fighting hunger.
“We believe that Rep. Ted Yoho’s recent actions and words as reported in the media are not reflective of the ethical standards expected of members of our Board of Directors,” the organization said in a statement.
On Monday, Congressman Yoho disagreed with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez on issues involving underserved communities.
According to the Hill, Yoho told Ocasio-Cortez she was “disgusting” for recently suggesting that poverty and unemployment are driving a spike in crime in New York City during the coronavirus pandemic.
“You are out of your freaking mind,” he continued. Ocasio-Cortez responded that Yoho was being “rude.”
The two then went their separate ways, but not before Yoho called her a f—— b—-, according to a reporter.
The encounter shocked many lawmakers on both sides of the government, forcing Yoho to issue an apology on Wednesday.

He denied using the foul language saying he is “cognizant” of his role as a husband and father.
On Friday, she told CNN “if he wants to continue to lie that’s his business.”
“It is true that we disagree on policies and visions for America, but that does not mean we should be disrespectful,” said Yoho on the House Floor.
Ocasio-Cortz formally responded to Yoho’s comments with a speech.
