Bun B supports Megan Thee Stallion after shooting incident, Boosie is staying out of it

OG rapper Bun B has a few words for Tory Lanez. The Houston-based Trill rapper who founded UGK with the late Pimp C in 1987 did an Instagram Live over the weekend. While touching on a variety of subjects, he shared his feelings on the alleged shooting incident involving the Canada-born rapper and Megan Thee Stallion.

Lanez, 28, is a Canadian born singer/rapper who was born Daystar Peterson. He was arrested on July 12 for having a concealed weapon but was released on bond the next day.

He has not posted on Instagram since July 10 but did like a post from former NFL player Larry Johnson that was critical of Megan. That like was ‘unliked’ after users on Twitter pointed out prior allegations that Johnson was abusive to women.

Bun B has come out unequivocally in support of Megan, saying on a recent Instagram Live that since Megan, 25, has lost the most important people in her life – her mother, father and grandmother. He said that that she’s alone in Los Angeles and she should be protected.

“I’m from Houston and if somebody did something to Megan in his city, we would have rode,” Bun B, born Bernard James Freeman, said about 17 minutes into his Live when he addressed the situation.

“She ain’t got her momma no more, her momma is gone,” he said. “Her daddy is gone. Her grandmother is gone. All the people that loved her and cared about her unconditionally that looked out for her and would have protected her ain’t there. So, as an OG in Houston, I’m standing up. Tory Lanez is some ho ass s–. Period. Yeah, I know Tory. I know his manager. I know all of ’em, man. F*ck all that though. F– all that.”

Megan herself went onto Instagram to address the situation in a video. As reported by theGrio, the Houston-based rap star, born Megan Pete, said that while she’d tried not to name Lanez, she says he and his team had been telling lies to various blogs and that she wanted to put the truth out there.

“You shot me,” she said. “Stop lying.”

Bun B also shared that he felt that another one of the reasons that Megan was not getting the kind of support she deserved after the incident was that she was a Black woman. He compared the push back she’s gotten from the public to what would happen had a white female celebrity- like a Cameron Diaz –  been in the same situation.

“Nobody is talking about it because it’s a Black woman,” he said. “And y’all can say what y’all want. That’s just what it is.”

While there has been criticism of the silence from other male rappers on the situation, some have responded. New Orleans rapper Boosie took some fire on social media today for not commenting on the incident.

He said that since he usually says the wrong thing and that he’s cool with both Lanez and Megan. He also wants Megan to do a feature with him and has elected not to make a comment at all. But given his history of controversial takes on other hot topics, Boosie correctly predicted he’d still get criticized.

“They gone take this and they gone flip it on me and make it look like I took a side so like my momma say,  I need to shut up on this one,” Boosie said in a recent Live.

Other celebrities have expressed their public support for the rap star. Michael B. Jordan, Halle Berry, and L.A. Lakers star J.R. Smith have all advocated for Megan in light of the allegations. In a recent post, Smith called Lanez a “straight-up clown,” and said anyone who disagreed could “hit my line or whatever.”
