Wife of Dr. Dre being investigated for embezzlement amid divorce battle

Dr. Dre's divorce from Nicole Young after 24 years of marriage has been far from amicable.

Nicole Young, the estranged wife of super-producer Dr. Dre, is being investigated for embezzlement by the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD is investing a claim that Young, 50, stole funds from her husband’s Record One recording studios on two occasions, including withdrawing over $350,000 from the company’s business account in August.

Young had claimed that she was entitled to the money since she was a trustee of the account. Larry Chatman, the co-founder of Record One, claims that Young was removed from the account after the first withdrawal and was no longer entitled to monies from it.

TMZ obtained a letter last month accusing Young of “decimating” the company’s bank account and attached a copy of the check that she wrote to herself. In the letter, she is accused of “blatant and unjustifiable criminal embezzlement of corporate funds.”

However, Young’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, told the tabloid outlet then that the investigation is a PR stunt.

“There is no question that Nicole had both the contractual and the legal right to have taken this action, and Andre’s team is well aware of this fact,” Freedman said. “Any suggestion she did something untoward is preposterous and pathetic.”

Dr. Dre, 55, and Young are divorcing after 24 years of marriage. The split has not been amicable.

Young is seeking millions of dollars in spousal support. In court filings, her attorneys assert she “played an important role” in helping the multi-millionaire rap legend build his substantial fortune.

Court documents note that the couple has five homes in Los Angeles, a private jet, 12 security guards, seven housekeepers, a private chef and more.

A judge has previously ruled that Dr. Dre does not have to pay $1.5 million to cover the costs of a private security team for his ex-wife.

The couple has two adult children.
