“For many years they had me brainwashed thinking that you couldn’t vote cause you had a criminal record. I didn’t know that. My record’s been expunged, so now I can vote,” Snoop Dogg, 48, said.

The Doggystyle rapper also shared his desire to prevent President Donald Trump from holding office for another term inspired his quest to vote for the first time this November.

“I ain’t never voted a day in my life, but this year I think Imma get out and vote because I can’t stand to see this punk in office one more year.”

In preparation to cast his first vote, Snoop Dogg got registered to vote online with a blunt in one hand. The rapper displayed his experience for viewers to see and hopefully get inspired to sign up themselves. As he went through each step, the rapper sat at his Macbook and talked through the process. He described the final questions about parole status as discouraging for people like him who may be confused about their status.

“This would be the discouraging moment at the end of the vote for me… But guess what? It’s not. Fuck what they talking about,” he remarked as he completed the process.

The artist also signed up to be a poll worker on election day on his registration form. He joked comparing working the polls to working the poles as an exotic dancer.

“I can just see them calling me for P-Valley now,” he laughed.

Snoop Dogg also teamed up with the Democratic  National Convention for a new ad campaign “Drop It In The Box!” which makes use of his hit single Drop It Like It’s Hot featuring Pharrell Williams. In the video, voters of all demographics are shown taking their ballots to drop-off boxes as the well-known Neptunes beat plays in the background.

“This is the most important election of our lifetimes and it’s my first time voting,” said Snoop Dogg according to Variety. “We need every single American to get out there and vote. It’s time for ya’ll to drop those ballots like they’re hot — in your local dropbox. Vote early and let ‘em know our voices will be heard!”
