Twyshon Depew, the “brother” of rapper Fetty Wap, was shot and killed Thursday in Paterson, New Jersey.
The rap star confirmed the death of the 26-year-old four days ago in an Instagram post.
Media outlets are reporting that the men were brothers, however, NorthJersey.com writes that multiple sources have told them that the men are not biological brothers, but they were extremely close friends.
In announcing the death, Fetty Wap wrote, “I love you lil bro… my twin,” recounting that he has tried calling him to no avail.

“I really thought I could get you out,” he wrote, “before I had to make a post like this, bro.”
Comments on Wap’s Instagram post were disabled, but the rapper was trending on Twitter, not only because of his loss, but because Korean pop fans were using his name as a hashtag after a major K-pop star posted a video playing his music.

Depew’s killing brought Paterson’s fatal shootings to nearly two dozen, including three involving police officers, which are also under investigation by the state’s attorney general.
NorthJersey.com reports that the city is in the midst of “one of its most violent stretches in years.”

According to local outlets, officials responded to the Depew shooting on Thursday night around 9 p.m.
He was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle after being struck. He died from his injuries later that night.
Passaic County Prosecutor Jason Statuto told CNN Monday that “no arrests have been made at this time, however, the investigation is still active and ongoing.”

Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, is a native of Paterson. He rose to fame after his debut single, “Trap Queen,” reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The 29-year-old rapper is also known for his distinctive appearance after being born with glaucoma. He is blind in one eye.
