Kamala Harris has a message for toddler niece who aspires to be president
'You could be president,' the now Vice President-elect tells her great-niece
A heart-warming video of now Vice President-elect Kamala Harris sharing a moment with her toddler niece is making the rounds online.
Meenakshi (Meena) Harris, Kamala Harris’ niece and mother of the toddler, posted the clip of her four-year-old daughter sitting on the lap of the senator from California expressing a desire to be president.
In the video, Kamala Harris assures her great-niece “You could be president” before explaining that she would have to be at least 35-years-old. The adorable little girl quickly informs Harris that she also aspires to be “an astronaut.”
The video was shared on Twitter on Wednesday.
On Saturday, after the announcement that her aunt would be the next vice president of the United States, Meena Harris tweeted that her precocious daughter yelled: “BLACK GIRLS ARE WELCOME TO BE PRESIDENT!”

Women around the country quickly responded to the tweet with stories of their own little girls’ expressed aspirations to be president.
Opal Vadhan, executive assistant to former Democratic nominee Hilary Clinton, responded to the post with a photo of a young Kamala Harris posing with her family members. Above the photo she wrote: “Thinking of all the brown and black girls who will see themselves in @kamalaharris and will grow up knowing that they can be anything.”
Sharing her excitement with her Twitter followers, Meena Harris posted a series of tweets: “After nearly 2 years, I can now exhale,” she wrote in one tweet.

“A black woman from Oakland is about to be Vice President of the United States,” she exclaimed with lots of smiley face emojis.
In another post, she said, “MADAM VICE PRESIDENT SOUNDS PRETTY DAMN GOOD!
Meena Harris is a lawyer, founder and CEO of Phenomenal Woman action campaign and a New York Times bestselling author who released her first children’s book in June 2020.
The book, entitled Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea is based on her mother, Maya, and her aunt, Kamala.
An upcoming book, entitled Ambitious Girl, is scheduled for release in January, 2021.
