The show will honor the iconic 90’s girl group En Vogue, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1990 debut album Born to Sing, with the Urban Music Icon Award, while Deborah Cox will receive the Entertainer Icon Award. The Canadian-born singer is best known for her 90’s hits “Sentimental,” “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” and the duet “We Can’t Be Friends” with RL.

Gospel star Fred Hammond who was recently diagnosed with COVID-19, is the recipient of the Gospel Music Icon award.

And this year, not just musicians will be awarded. The National Museum of African American Music in Nashville will receive the Honors’ Legacy Award, even though the COVID-19 pandemic delayed its Labor Day grand opening.

“I am extremely excited about our 5th Annual 2020 Black Music Honors television special and our legendary awardees,” said founder and executive producer Don Jackson. “In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important for us to stay committed to producing The Black Music Honors as a means of celebrating music icons who are often overlooked in receiving their much-deserved recognition.”
