‘The Hill with April Ryan’: America’s gun crisis, Trump indictment and more

On this week's episode of "The Hill with April Ryan," former U.S. education secretary Arne Duncan calls for a national school boycott amid another mass shooting; and former Attorney General Eric Holder weighs in on Trump indictment.

On this week’s episode of “The Hill with April Ryan,” former U.S. education secretary, Arne Duncan, calls for a national school boycott until stiffer gun control legislation is passed in Congress after the Nashville school shooting earlier this week.  

Three 9-year-old children are dead, along with three adults, after a former student —  28-year-old Audrey Hale — was named as the suspect. Hale was killed on the scene by law enforcement. 

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and other Democrats on Capitol Hill are continuing to call for stricter gun laws. According to Education Week, the Nashville massacre marks the 13th school shooting of the year.

Host April D. Ryan also gives the latest on the potential indictment of former President Donald Trump. Eric Holder, the former U.S. attorney general during the Obama administration, believes the criminal investigation of Trump in Fulton County, Georgia, could result in an indictment and possibly jail time. In that case, Trump was caught on tape asking state officials to change the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Additionally, President Biden will travel Friday to Rolling Fork, Mississippi, in the aftermath of the deadly tornado that caused devastation. The mostly Black community saw over 20 deaths and hundreds of homes and businesses destroyed. The community also has a median income of $38,000 annually.

On “The Hill,” we also caught up with Tonya Lewis Lee, who traveled with Vice President Kamala Harris on her historic trip to Africa. The filmmaker joined the special delegation in support of the vice president and her efforts to advance women’s health, empowerment and economic stability. 

The vice president took a contingent of Americans on the trip with her, including Marc Morial, the president of the National Urban League; David Wilson, president of Morgan State University; award-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph; actor Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Elba, and a host of others. 

The U.S. delegation met with their African counterparts to bolster the Ghana and U.S. partnership.
