This year marks the 7th anniversary of June being recognized as National Caribbean American Heritage Month.
An annual White House Proclamation commemorates the contributions of Caribbean people to the history and culture of the United States. In this year’s proclamation, President Obama called the contributions of Caribbeans to this country “immeasurable” and highlighted the roles they have played in the arts, music, the sciences and politics.
Also cause for celebration during this month are the upcoming 50th independence anniversaries of Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago on August 6th and August 30th respectively.
Here are some famous people that you may or may not have known are Caribbean.
