Jason Thompson, the son of Republican Wisconsin U.S. Senate candidate Tommy Thompson, made an off-color remark at President Obama’s expense which has now gone viral.
At a Republican Party of Kenosha County brunch event, Thompson said that “we have the opportunity” to send Obama “back to Chicago — or Kenya.”
The crowd was clearly receptive, but to most viewers the remarks are a blatant example of race-baiting birtherism.
A spokesperson for the Thompson campaign told BuzzFeed that “Jason Thompson said something he should not have, and he apologizes.”
RNC chairman Reince Priebus appeared at the same event, right before Thompson, but he has not made any official denunciation of the Kenya quip. For his part, Tommy Thompson claims he has not seen the video.
