On Saturday’s Melissa Harris-Perry Show, the MSNBC host read an open letter to the turkey pardoned by President Barack Obama just before Thanksgiving, urging Cobbler — and by extension, Obama — to take an interest in the people seeking pardons, not just the fowl.
Obama has pardoned just 2 percent of applicants during his first term — 1 in 47 of those who applied, making his the lowest pardon rate of any of the past five presidents.
By contrast, Ronald Reagan pardoned nearly 1 in 3 applicants, and no president except George W. Bush has had as low a pardon rate as the current president.
Harris-Perry walked viewers though some of the more egregious cases of those seeking pardons who have thus far been denied, and asked for a little holiday spirit from the White House.
