Fox 2000 has announced plans for a sequel to the hugely popular 1997 movie Soul Food and will be utilizing George Tillman, Jr., who directed the first film, to write the script alongside Nathan Skulnik.

The 1997 film followed the story of an African-American family whose tradition of eating a big meal together every Sunday helped to keep their familial bonds tight. However, their bonds begin to fray following the death of the family matriarch.

The sequel will follow the next generation of the family as they struggle through the modern era of technology and cell phones, which they worry will create a distance between them. As they try to find a balance between the modern world and the traditions of their family, they look to find ways to keep their love and support strong.

Vanessa Williams, Vivica A. Fox, Nia Long and Mekhi Phifer starred in the original movie and are expected to return for the sequel.

What do you think, Grio fam? Are you excited to see more Soul Food? Can the sequel live up to its glorious predecessor?
