White House photographer Pete Souza has been photographing President Barack Obama throughout his administration, and when it comes to picking photos for his “Year in Photographs” list, he always seems to have a hard time keeping it under 100 images. After all, 2015 was quite a full year for the president.

“Editing photographs, especially for a project like this, is both subjective and personal,” Souza wrote in a post on Medium. “I not only found key historic moments from the year, but also chose moments that give people a more personal look at the lives of the President and First Lady. I’ve also included many photographs that rely more on their graphic qualities, including light and composition.”

The photos include everything from historic moments like the legalization of same-sex marriage to private moments like the president playing with staffer’s kids.

Check out the photos and the video below as we look back on the old year and look forward to the new.
