According to a newly released report by the CDC, black woman make up a disproportionate percentage of all abortions performed in the United States.

Although black women make up six percent of the population, they account for 35 percent of all abortions, while white woman, at 77 percent of the population, account for 37 percent of abortions. Hispanic women, at 17.6 percent of the population, make up 19 percent of the population.

According to the CDC, “The findings in this report indicate that the number, rate, and ratio of reported abortions have declined across all race/ethnicity groups, but that well-documented disparities persist (310). Comparatively high abortion rates and ratios among non-Hispanic black women have been attributed to higher unintended pregnancy rates and a greater percentage of unintended pregnancies ending in abortion.”

Additionally, the CDC noted that the data on race was incomplete, as some states such as Florida and California that had high minority populations did not report race and ethnicity dates, and the CDC noted meant that “the absence of data from these areas reduces the representativeness of CDC data.”

However, the high percentage of minority abortions feeds the theory put forward by Jesse Jackson in 1973 that “abortion is genocide” and the black and minority women are specifically being targeted for abortions.
