President Donald Trump is raising eyebrows for appointing a man who previously called Barack Obama a “Kenyan creampie” to a senior level position.

William C. Bradford, who will now head the Department of Energy’s Office of Indian Energy, made the disparaging comment on Twitter, though the tweets have since been deleted. Bradford’s damaging tweets were published in The Washington Post, and included other controversial statements like referring to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg as an “arrogant self-hating Jew.”

“I think Obama was given his mission in Tehran long ago, and it suits him just fine. How else can a Kenyan creampuff get ahead,” Bradford said of the nation’s 44th president.

When pressed by the Post on his comments, Bradford was apologetic. “As a minority and member of the Jewish faith, I sincerely apologize for my disrespectful and offensive comments,” he said. “These comments are inexcusable and I do not stand by them. Now, as a public servant, I hold myself to a higher standard, and I will work every day to better the lives of all Americans.”
