Cory Booker explains Bain comments on ‘The Tonight Show’

Newark mayor Cory Booker was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night and he talked about his relationship with President Obama after the fallout from comments he made on Meet the Press regarding Mitt Romney’s venture capital firm, Bain Capital. The Huffington Post reports:

Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D) said Tuesday that he and President Barack Obama are still friends after a May 20 “Meet The Press” interview where the mayor called criticisms of Mitt Romney’s tenure at private equity firm Bain capital “nauseating.”

“I definitely wasn’t at my best,” Booker said to Jay Leno on NBC’s “The Tonight Show.” “What I was trying to express — the reaction to it all, really made my point, that we are now in this combustible polarized political environment that distracts us.”

Booker clarified his remarks the same day of the “Meet The Press” interview, but they nevertheless complicated an attack line for the Obama campaign.

On “The Tonight Show,” Booker said that he didn’t defend Romney, and maintains a good relationship with the president.
