Pat Buchanan: 'Obama is a drug dealer of welfare'

In the aftermath of Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” remarks, conservative pundit Pat Buchanan came to the defense of the Republican presidential candidate, stating that Romney believes in temporary help for anyone that is trouble, but President Barack Obama on the other hand is a “drug dealer of welfare” who wants to keep Americans dependent on the government.

Buchanan labeled Obama a “Fabian Socialist” because he believes the president is rying to change the American structure gradually through dependence on the government as a means of maintaining power, while likening welfare to a narcotic. He said, “government relief was viewed as a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit.” He continued, “If it is narcotic, then in my judgment, Barack Obama is a drug dealer of welfare. “

Buchanan, who made these comments during his appearance yesterday on Fox News’ On The Record with Greta Van Susteren, drew a comparison between Americans born during the Great Depression in Washington D.C and those living there now.

“Of the 800,000 thousand born in the ‘30s and raised in the ‘50s, nobody in D.C. was on food stamps, however, of the 600,000 living in D.C. now, one in five live off food stamps,” said Buchanan.

While admitting that Romney’s off the cuff remarks disregarding “47 percent” of voters was not the best approach, the conservative political commentator does believe that Republican candidates’ policies are better suited for Americans, especially the elderly and the service personnel that encompass the portion of the electorate Romney appears to have written off.
