Ann Coulter says GOP should cave on tax hikes for rich

“We lost the election, Sean!” Ann Coulter told Fox host Sean Hannity last night after she claimed that Republicans should accept President Barack Obama’s proposed tax hikes for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans.

Her political reversal came during Fox’s Sean Hannity Show when the topic of the fiscal cliff was brought up and Coulter explained that Republicans need to stop giving into the media’s negative perception of their party in order to have a chance at winning in the 2014 and 2016 elections.

“In the end, at some point, if the Bush tax cuts are repealed and everyone’s taxes go up, I promise you Republicans will get blamed for it,” she said. “It doesn’t mean you cave on everything, but there are some things Republicans do that feed into what the media is telling America about Republicans.”

Hannity did not take her statement lightly: “So are you saying that, for PR purposes, that they should give in to Obama on the rate?”

Coulter responded, “Not exactly, I — well yeah, I guess I am.”

Hannity later retorted, “So now we have to go sucking up to the media and hoping they like us?”

The so called “fiscal cliff” from the Budget Control Act of 2011 is scheduled to take into effect at the start of 2013 featuring a number of tax increases and spending cuts, but Congress has been at a partisan gridlock, causing them to put off finding a solution.

In response to the fiscal cliff, Republicans, in general, are hoping to cut spending and avoid raising taxes, whereas Democrats want a compromise of tax increases and spending cuts.
