Singer and social activist Harry Belafonte appeared on MSNBC’s Politics Nation last night, hosted by Al Sharpton, to discuss the GOP and President Barack Obama’s second term.

Sharpton noted that Belafonte fought for decades for the “entitlements” the right wing is trying to do away with in order to balance the nation’s budget deficit. This includes Medicaid, social security and Medicare.

Belafonte believes that by voting for a second Obama term by an significant margin, Americans have chosen the direction that they want this country to go in.

“The American people, in their maturity, declared themselves fully,” Belafonte said. “We want what Barack Obama is talking about. We want our country to go in that direction.”

Belafonte adds that he is fascinated by “corrupt people who sit trying to dismantle the wishes of the people.”

“The only thing left for Barack Obama to do is to work like a third world dictator and put all these guys in jail,” Belafonte said. “You’re violating the American desire.”
