KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Reggae singer Frederick “Toots” Hibbert has canceled the remainder of his U.S. tour and returned home to Jamaica after getting hit in the head with a glass bottle during a show.
Spokeswoman Andrea Davis says Hibbert regrets the decision but he is still undergoing treatment and wishes to focus on his recovery.
The Grammy winner was struck by a vodka bottle thrown at him by an audience member during a May 19 concert in Richmond, Virginia. He was treated at a local hospital and released.
Police have said a 19-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault.
Davis says Hibbert returned to Jamaica on Tuesday.
Hibbert is best known as the leader of Toots & the Maytals, whose hits include “Pressure Drop” and “54-46 Was My Number.”
