Is ‘Beverly Hills Cop IV’ headed to the big screen?

Eddie Murphy’s iconic Beverly Hills Cop may be skipping the small screen and heading straight to the theaters.

According to Deadline.com, Paramount has decided to back Murphy’s return as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop IV, which would be written by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. The two were also the screenwriters behind big-name movies like Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake.

Anticipation for this project originally began earlier this summer when a TV version of the series, written by Shawn Ryan, was shopped around to networks and appeared to find a home at CBS, who considered airing the pilot.

However, in a decision announced in May, the network decided to no longer feature the comedy-drama, which was to star Brandon T. Jackson as Axel’s son, Aaron Foley.

Despite the setback, the franchise sparked enough interest for Paramount to get involved in another motion picture.

No release date or further production dates for the latest installment have been released.
