NBC New York – The family of a Brooklyn man who collapsed and died after police came to his home early Thursday because they were searching for a suspect in a cell phone robbery is questioning the NYPD’s actions that morning.

Carlo Alcis, 43, collapsed shortly after police entered his apartment on Rockaway Parkway in Brownsville; at the time, police said he appeared to be experiencing seizure symptoms.

The man’s family says he was startled when police suddenly showed up at his door.

“My brother started shaking and fell on the floor among those cops,” said Stevenson Alcis.

The police department said officers immediately called for EMS and started performing CPR.

The man’s family says that’s not true.

“My nephew had to call 911 with more than 10 cops there,” said Stevenson Alcis.

When EMS arrived, Alcis was already dead.

Alcis’ family is getting support from the Rev. Al Sharpton, and their attorney, Sandy Rubinstein, is demanding that the district attorney investigate the case.

“Only way this is going to stop is, if there were any criminality, that it be prosecuted,” Rubinstein said.
