It’s been a popular meme on social media that celebrity deaths happen in threes — so when Fast & Furious star Paul Walker died in a tragic car wreck this past weekend, the Internet was on high alert for a the potential loss of another star.
For no apparent reason, comedic actor Eddie Murphy became a popular target for death rumors.
Although the Coming to America star has kept a low profile lately, he is very much alive, contrary to what a lot of tweeters had to say.
Not long after news of Walker’s passing broke, some people assumed his death was a hoax too.
“I’m hearing tons of Paul Walker is dead stuff. Well.. keep in mind that Eddie Murphy died 8 times,” one person tweeted.
This isn’t the first time Murphy has been subjected to fake and insensitive reports of his demise.
Just last year, reports claimed he’d been killed in a snowboarding accident in Switzerland. Actors George Clooney, Morgan Freeman and Bill Cosby have also all been incorrectly pronounced dead on social media.
