A Florida House Republican candidate chose Martin Luther King Day to issue some particularly harsh invective against the president of the United States.

Joshua Black, who is running to represent District 68 in the Sunshine state, argued that President Barack Obama should be executed for his foreign policies, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

“I’m past impeachment,” Black wrote on Twitter. “It’s time to arrest and hang him high.”

Even Black’s fellow Republicans were unamused.

“You aren’t seriously calling for the killing of Obama are you?” said Chris Latvala a GOP candidate out of the 67th District. “I know you are crazy but good heavens. U R an embarrassment.”

What be may most surprising about Black’s racial insensitivity is that he also happens to be African-American.

Despite widespread criticism for his comments, Black is not backing down.

“He should be executed for treason,” Black said. “I think the appropriate punishment is death. They killed Benedict Arnold. [Obama] shouldn’t be allowed to kill Americans without a trial.”

He added: “I make no apologies for saying that the president is not above the people. If ordinary Americans should be executed for treason, so should he.”

Black’s Democratic opponent Rep. Dwight Dudley was quick to condemn Black.

“It’s dangerous and unbecoming for someone who wants to lead to call for such violence and extremist action,” he said. “Wow. I’m stunned.”
