While Nicki Minaj continues to distance herself from her pop star image with a recent streak of rap-heavy features.
She’s letting her critics know she’s still an elite emcee.
Minaj shined on YG’s “My Hitta” and Young Thug’s “Danny Glover,” reminding fans of the ‘old’ Nicki, the one who delivered a scene-stealing verse on Kanye West’s “Monster” back in 2010.
But there have been a few missteps during her return to her lyrical roots.
This past February, Nicki Minaj released “Looking A** Ni**a,” which used the iconic image of Malcolm X holding a rifle outside of his house on its cover.
The family of the slain civil rights icon voiced their displeasure and Minaj later apologized. The “Super Bass” rapper addresses the situation on wax with her latest song “Chiraq” featuring Lil Herb.

The beats behind “Chiraq” sound sinister and Minaj is ferocious rapping about naysayers and critics.

While Miinaj is a Queens NY native, she’s acknowledging Chicago’s rap ‘drill scene’ that became popular with the rise of Chief Keef, Lil Durk, and producer Young Chop.
