A man who was convicted of two 2008 murders during multiple Dunkin’ Donuts robberies in South Florida dared a judge to give him the death penalty Friday.
“Honestly and truly, I’m not asking you to spare me,” James Herard told a Broward County judge, according to NBC Mimai. “Go ahead and do what you gonna do. I pretty much dare you to give me the death sentence because I’m innocent.”
A Fort Lauderdale jury found James Herard guilty in May and recommended the death sentence.
Herard was recently found guilty of the 2008 murder of 39-year-old Eric Jean-Pierre. Prosecutors argued that he didn’t pull the trigger but directly influenced the shooter to commit the crime.
He was previously given a life sentence for the 2008 murder of 58-year-old Kiem Huynh.
Herard made headlines in 2011 when he barked like a dog during a pre-trial hearing.
