The return of LeBron James' hairline becomes media fascination

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

The restoration of LeBron James’ hairline has been generating a lot of buzz online, and it’s not just coming from wisecracking fans on social media. Mainstream news outlets from the Washington Post to TIME Magazine all seem to be fascinated with LeBron’s hairline.

The Bleacher Report received 721,000 views from an article focused solely on its return. The writer Dan Carson began the article with this quip:

“Hold up.

Wait. Stop the record, Dre. We need to talk about something crucially important to the social fabric — specifically, we need to discuss the state of the follicle union atop LeBron James’ head.”

LeBron’s receding hairline has somehow been the topic of discussion ever since he decided to leave Cleveland. It’s been the subject of countless internet memes such as these on thefumble.com. It’s even been mocked on-air by the NBA on TNT crew.

Earlier this week at Nike’s headquarters, James not only unveiled his much anticipated “Lebron 12” sneaker but also a new haircut that seems to have restored the hair he’s lost over the past few years.

USA Today didn’t hesitate to broach the subject matter with its speculation on how King James’ hairline made a Lazarus-like return.

“Was it Rogaine? Hair plugs? One of those late night infomercials offering a hybrid treatment of lasers, staples, and excess back hair? It was probably all of those things, plus a mystical hair incantation, and then a secret government thing we don’t even know about. And you know what? LeBron looks great. Do your thing, LeBron.”

The only way we will possibly know if this whole hair thing is permanent is by paying close attention to it over a span of an 82 game season. Will it hit the “rookie wall” or make it to the playoffs? Only time will tell.
