'Sh*t Steve Harvey Says' viral video highlights his most offensive words of advice

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Steve Harvey has done a great job of branding himself as a talk show host and author known for his no nonsense, “down home” advice. He’s even managed to cross generational and racial lines by serving as the host of Family Feud — a job that allows him to use his comedic abilities on one of America’s favorite game shows.

But yesterday, a video posted to Reddit shows the former King of Comedy in a less favorable light. The 6-minute clip is a compilation of interviews and excerpts titled “Sh*t Steve Harvey Says” and has many people saying that his views are no laughing matter. The clip was originally posted on YouTube on May 2012 but has now gone viral.

In one segment, Steve asserts that “real” mean need women, a claim that immediately makes the cohost of The View jump in to defend gay men. On another clip, he also boldly asserts that all atheists are “idiots” with no moral barometer and advises women that men cheat because “so many women out there are willing to cheat with them.”

Commenters on social media sites are up in arms by what they say are sexist, homophobic and divisive attacks against anyone who doesn’t subscribe to Steve’s heteronormative, Christian beliefs.

The maker of the compilation shares:

My mom asked me about my disdain of Steve Harvey so I made this little compilation video to succinctly explain my ire. Think of it as a Powerpoint in video form.

Grio fam, what do you think of this compilation? Are Steve’s views offensive, or is everyone just taking his jokes too seriously?
