Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Today, Dr. Phil aired his much-publicized special titled EXCLUSIVE: Bobbi Kristina’s Boyfriend, Distraught and Out of Control: The Nick Gordon Intervention.

The name alone — along with the accompanying hashtag #NickGordonIntervention — has people giving Phil McGraw and his team the side-eye for what some think is an attempt to exploit a young man in a lot of pain.

As we previously reported, McGraw tells Gordon’s mother, who has not seen him since Bobbi Kristina’s incident, “Your son, left to his own devices, will be dead inside a week” — and proceeds to repeat that to the distraught woman numerous times throughout the broadcast.

During the sit-down, Gordon is visibly erratic, vulnerable and under the influence — eventually confessing he is drunk.

At several points, he is trembling, weeping, hyperventilating and occasionally walks out. He cries about missing Whitney and Bobby Kristina, admits he hates Bobby Brown and pleads his innocence by stating, “I love everybody. I would never hurt anybody.”

McGraw tells Gordon to “man up” and informs him that a rehab center is three hours away, promising to send a helicopter to return him to Bobbi Kristina’s room if she wakes up and calls his name.

The whole ordeal is such a train wreck that as a viewer you almost have to numb yourself in order to get through it.

Grio fam, do you think Dr. Phil is helping or exploiting this troubled young man?

See a clip of the interview below, along with McGraw’s take on what happened during their time together.
