Parents in a Georgia school district are upset over a teacher who allegedly told students that President Obama is not Christian and that “any parent who supports him is not a Christian.”
According to WMGT, Dublin City Schools Superintendent Dr. Chuck Ledbetter said that he has spoken to the Dublin Middle School teacher about the incident, which occurred three weeks ago.
“We work to build bridges with students, not build walls,” Ledbetter told WMGT. “And talking politics, especially giving political opinions, can be very divisive.”

A letter from the local NAACP chapter claims the teacher went on the ask students to “prove their Christianity.” The letter says that the parents later met with the teacher and a school board member.
Ledbetter would not identify the board member, though the NAACP says it was the teacher’s husband.
“A board member being in a parent-teacher conference can tip the balance, or at least from the appearance, tip the balance of fairness,” Ledbetter said. “It is not a practice that we can allow.”
Ledbetter says that he has met with the teacher and written to parents, explaining the steps he has taken thus far. He is also considering sensitivity training for teachers.
