Forty-nine years ago, a Missouri woman was told her daughter had died just after hours after being born. But on Thursday, much to everyone’s surprise, mother and daughter were reunited.

Shortly after delivering her baby, Zella Price was told the infant had died. This was not true, and for some unknown reason, her child was given up for adoption.

Price’s daughter, Melanie Diane Gilmore, says this reunion is something she has wanted for a long time.

Knowing how much this meant to their mother, Gilmore’s children used the Internet to track down Zella Price. DNA testing later confirmed it was a match. This week, the two women were finally reunited at Price’s home in Olivette, MO.

“There’s nothing greater. There’s nothing greater than this. Nothing,” Price said.

While the family is taking the time to get to know each other, they vow to begin an investigation into why their family was separated nearly a half-century ago.
