The South Carolina cop charged with killing Walter Scott is now being held in isolation for his own protection.

According to The Daily News, whenever former Officer Michael Slager leaves his cell, prison guards must surround him on all sides — and keep other inmates far away.

“He wouldn’t last one week in the general population before someone shivved his a–,” recently released inmate John Aitchek shared on Friday. “Everyone inside is talking about it. Of course people want to get at him.”

Since being fired by the North Charleston Police Department on Tuesday, Slager’s life has drastically changed.

Of the 1,198 inmates currently in custody at the Charleston County jail, 832 are black and only 366 are white like Slager. This, in addition to the fact that he was a cop, puts him at risk. Jail employees say he has been stoic in his first few days in lock up.

“He’s been real quiet,” said one, who asked not to be identified. “Hasn’t cried or shown a lot of emotion.”
