On Monday afternoon, Stacey Dash said that no one would have been beheaded under a Bush presidency when she was a guest host on Outnumbered.
Her comments came after word spread that the former president George W. Bush had criticized President Barack Obama’s foreign policy publicly for the first time.
“Just remember the guy who slit Danny Pearl’s throat is in Gitmo, and now they’re doing it on TV,” he said in remarks to the Republican Jewish Coalition, referencing the Wall Street Journal reported who was captured by Pakistani militants in 2002.
Dash ran with the statement, saying, “When George W. Bush was president, the most important thing to him was not to be liked, but to be respected. And you better believe no one would have been beheaded when he was president.”
The only problem? Pearl was actually beheaded.
In fact, after Pearl’s execution video was released, many have said that was the catalyst for other beheadings in the region. According to the Washington Post, “After [Pearl’s] death, the use of this tactic seemed to spread, most notably into Iraq, where a large number of foreign citizens were captured and later beheaded in the immediate years after the U.S.-led invasion.”
