Recently, Tamir Rice’s mother revealed that she has been staying at a homeless shelter, because she was unable to stand living so close to the scene of her son’s death. But while she still has much healing to do, she can at least sleep more soundly, as supporters have helped her to move to a new home in Cleveland.

“Emotionally, she just could not take it, and she had nowhere else to go,” Rice’s attorney Walter Madison told Cleveland Scene of Rice’s decision to move into a homeless shelter. “It was more comfortable for her in a shelter than it would have been in her own home.”

The family has been facing rising legal costs as they are pursuing answers for their death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice.

The officers involved have asked for a delay in the legal action, citing concerns that their testimonies in the civil rights case might be used against them in criminal trials. However, the family has insisted that the case move forward to avoid further financial and emotional problems.

Rice has not yet been buried because the family does not know if his body will need to be examined for the investigation, and this delay has only furthered their emotional pain.
