As of Monday, NBC has told Donald J. Trump, former star of “The Celebrity Apprentice” reality show, that he’s fired.
ABC News has reported that, due to remarks that Trump made about Mexican immigrants during his presidential announcement, NBC will be ending its business relationship with the real estate mogul.
During his June 16 announcement, the Republican presidential candidate referred to immigrants as “rapists” and “murderers.”
In a statement, NBC cited “derogatory statements” and said that it would no longer air the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants that were part of a joint venture with the network. Trump already gave up The Celebrity Apprentice before announcing his White House bid and will no longer have a role in the show.
Last week, Univision said it would no longer air any Trump-related pageants, and by Monday, a Change.org petition urging NBC to sever ties with him had attracted almost a quarter of a million signatures.
