On Friday, a jealous man who gunned down an aspiring architect for flirting with his wife, was sentenced to 20 years to life.

Lawrence Jones has been convicted for the premeditated murder of Isaiah Roberts on May 25, 2012.

“Jones killed this young man for no other reason than he believed he disrespected, a simple flirtation, on a bus, that happened long before this incident,” said Judge Michael Gary.

According to witnesses, the two men were engaged in a heated argument when Jones pulled out a gun. Roberts, an 18 year old immigrant from Trinidad with hopes of pursuing a career in architecture, ran when he saw the firearm. He was shot in the back as he fled.

Police found him lying face down and passed out on the street. He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

At his sentencing Jones maintained his innocence.
