Man arrested for allegedly trying to run over teens with SUV
theGRIO REPORT - A man is accused of trying to run over some teens, and the incident, caught on video, has since gone viral.
A man is accused of trying to run over some teens he alleges were bullying his daughter.
And the whole incident was caught on video.
In the video, which has since gone viral, you can see the man’s SUV headed directly for a group of kids, who fortunately get out of the way. The vehicle then speeds toward more kids.
“I just knew we had to get out of the way before he hit one of us,” Nathan Velez, 15, told WIFR. “When I first saw him pull out the bat I knew it was going to go somewhere, I knew he was trying to injure somebody.” Velez was able to captured the incident on video with his cell phone.
The driver of the vehicle, Roy Williams, 56, allegedly threatened two girls with his cane after his daughter told him about a fight she had been involved in on Wednesday night near Nelson Elementary School. He then got into his SUV and veered toward the group of teens.
“It was very helpful to identify who the suspect was, but it doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story, so we have to take a look at it and then talk to the people who were there,” Rockford Police Assistant Deputy Chief Doug Pann said, according to WIFR.
Williams now faces 12 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle, aggravated assault of public property, reckless driving, and reckless conduct.
