Forbes magazine sent out a tweet during the Venus and Serena Williams match that seemed to be throwing thinly veiled shade — and Black Twitter was not amused.
Tuesday evening, social media was abuzz as fans watched the Williams sisters face off in the U.S. Open quarterfinals. However, it quickly became apparent that whoever was manning the Forbes Twitter feed wasn’t feeling all the love being directed at the tennis champions and decided to indulge in a moment of pettiness that was hard to miss.
As Serena was claiming her victory, before the sweat could even dry from her brows, the magazine Tweeted, “Maria Sharapova — the business behind the world’s most marketable female athlete,” along with a link to an article from August.

Given the suspicious timing of the tweet, the debatable nod to Maria Sharapova (who Serena has beaten 17 times in a row), and the fact that the article was old — Williams supporters immediately called a foul and blew up Forbes’ mentions for the rest of the evening.

I don't know why @Forbes wanted to do that to @MariaSharapova. Even she had the good sense not to tweet during #SerenavsVenus

#SerenavsVenus is trending world wide. Yet, I don't see #MariaSharapova anywhere in my timeline.
