Nicki Minaj's reaction to Zendaya's Barbie doll upsets fans

Sunday, Zendaya revealed that Barbie created a doll in her likeness, causing fans and fellow celebs to shower her with congratulations.

However, when Nicki Minaj addressed the milestone on social media — her post immediately raised brows, with many pointing out that it felt more like a backhanded compliment than a sincere show of love.

“Congrats on your doll, Zendaya!” The Pinkprint rapper posted on Instagram. “Did u know Barbie made me one a cpl years back? It was such an honor & a HUGE surprise. Anyway, I love your doll’s hair! I love what it means for other little girls who will identify with it & be empowered. Continue to be proud of yourself girls!!!!!  #Barbie”

Minaj was heavily criticized for using someone else’s moment to talk about herself. Even more peculiar is that she chose to feature a picture of her own Barbie doll instead of Zendaya’s in the post.

This isn’t the first time Minaj has been accused of self-aggrandizing, but this time Zendaya’s fan’s weren’t having it. Even some of Nicki’s “Barbz” found themselves giving her the side-eye.

Despite the perceived conflict, as usual, Zendaya chose to take the high road, and now any mention of Zendaya’s doll also includes mention of Minaj’s response.
