Mother outraged by video of teen attacking her son in school detention

A Georgia mother is seeking answers after her 12-year-old son was beaten bloody during detention.

An Atlanta-area mother is seeking answers after her 12-year-old son was attacked during detention by an older student.

Sabrina Butler was shocked by the video footage of her son being attacked by a 14-year-old at Cedar Grove Middle School. The attack lasted for at least six seconds before a teacher stepped in to break it up.

“Everybody is saying this video, ‘Oh, it’s such a bad video, you don’t want to see it,’” Butler told WXIA-TV. “But, I’m like, it’s my child being attacked. I want to know exactly what happened.”

Butler said that her son was “never in trouble,” though he did get detention that day for throwing paper, and he was working on his homework during the detention when he was attacked.

The student who attacked her son accused him of throwing bread before he began to hit him until his nose bled. Butler believes that the attack was premeditated and pointed out that the student who recorded the video seemed to be ready to record the fight before it happened.

“It happened at school where my child should feel protected,” Butler said, saying that she wanted answers for what happened to her son.

Dekalb County Schools officials would not give details but said that “these matters are handled confidentiality.”
