Air Force officials remove 'fun shoot' poster featuring Dr. King
Air Force officials in Georgia have apologized after flyers were distributed featuring Martin Luther King, Jr. to advertise a ‘fun shoot’ on his birthday.
Robins Air Force base’s Leroy Minus explained to the Atlanta Journal Constitution that the flyer had been created by the marketing team, and that they had not meant to associate the assassinated civil rights icon with shooting. The intent, officials insisted, was not to cast King in a negative light but to associate the event with his birthday.
“We realized the inappropriateness of the advertisement several days ago and immediately began removing the flyer,” a statement said.
While the flyer was called an “honest mistake,” officials said that those involved would receive remedial training.
