At the Oscars last night, Chris Rock called out Jada Pinkett-Smith for her call to boycott the awards ceremony, and it looks like that was the last straw for Tyrese.
During his remarks while he was hosting the Oscars, Rock called out Pinkett-Smith for saying that black entertainers should not have to “beg” for roles. He spoke to the fact that she had called for people to boycott the awards because of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.
“Jada got mad, Jada says she’s not coming, protesting, I’m like — doesn’t she have a TV show? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited,” he said.
Tyrese was not happy with Rock’s remarks and went on Instagram to post a video of his response. “Did you really use your STAGE to tear down and diminish one of the strongest most fearless black women IN this town as the world watched??? Jokes are just jokes right???? Not when someone is trying to affect change,” Tyrese wrote. “Not when someone is willing to put it ALL on the line to affect change for our daughters and sons of the future.”
Tyrese later an Instagram post to Leonardo DiCaprio after he won his first career Oscar for The Revenant.
