‘It hit a sensual nerve!’: Oprah admits her new show has inspired her own sex life

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Ava DuVernay, creator of the upcoming OWN series Queen Sugar, is very meticulous about the way she shoots the show’s sex scenes, and her producer and collaborator Oprah Winfrey thinks whatever’s she’s doing is definitely working.

“Her sex scenes look damn sexy,” says Winfrey, musing about the first time she and longtime friend Gayle King watched the episodes.

“You want to be that person,” she says. “It hits a sensual nerve. He is unhooking her bra, and you’re like, woah! I’m like, ‘I’m going to get Stedman [Graham] to unhook my bra and see what happens. Put your hand in my panty hose and let’s see what happens.’”

After watching a particular scene where Timon Kyle Durrett picks up Dawn-Lyen Gardner in order to make love next to a pool high in the Hollywood Hills, the 62-year-old icon says bestie Gayle looked over at her and quipped, “God, I wish somebody would pick me up like that.”

To which Winfrey replied, “He’d probably hurt his back and fall into the pool. And that would ruin the scene.”

With all the great buzz about the show, it’s sure to be another success for OWN.

Queen Sugar, which is based on the novel by Natalie Baszile, premieres in a two-night special on September 5th and 6th.
