Woman sent pic of a ‘Sorry I Tased you’ cake by deputy who Tased her

Stephanie Byron claims that she was Tased when Escambia County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Wohlers came to visit her at work, but in a bizarre twist, he then sent her a picture of a cake with frosting reading “Sorry I Tased you.”

Wohlers allegedly came to Byron’s work in June to harass her “about her personal life,” according to Byron. At one point, he stole her sweet tea, and when she attempted to get it back, he Tased her, leaving her “bleeding and in pain.”

But the story doesn’t end there, because while Wohlers maintained that it was an “accidental discharge,” he sent her a message with the picture of the cake in an attempt to apologize. The picture understandably went viral, along with the story attached to it.

But then, on Thursday, a BuzzFeed news director pointed out that the image was from 2014, a year before the alleged Taser incident.

Byron’s attorney Alistair McKenzie then clarified: “Shortly after the incident, my client received a text message from then deputy Wohlers stating he had baked her a cake and providing her with a picture of the supposed cake he wanted to give to her. My client was never in physical possession of the cake and did not take the photograph. My client at all times believed this picture and cake to be real and this information was reported to law enforcement by her shortly after the incident.”

As for Wohlers, he resigned last year, and on Monday, he was put on a year’s probation from serving in law enforcement.

Byron has filed a lawsuit with the U.S. District Count for the Northern District of Florida.
