Orange Is the New Black’s Samira Wiley engaged to show writer

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Tuesday, Orange Is the New Black star Samira Wiley announced her engagement to Lauren Morelli, one of the show’s writers and producers.

The happy couple announced the upcoming nuptials on Instagram by posting a picture with the caption, “Yes.”

While fans of the Nextflix breakout hit may still be mourning the death of Wiley’s wildly popular character, Poussey Washington, the couple’s off-screen love story is just as interesting as any plot lines portrayed on the show.

At the start of filming, Morelli started to question her sexuality after only being married to her long-term boyfriend for a few months. In May, she wrote an essay on Identities.Mic about having the life-changing epiphany while writing for OITNB.

“I realized I was gay in fall 2012, one of my first days on the set,” Morelli shared. “I went through it all on set: I fell in love with a woman, and I watched my life play out on screen.”

The happy couple got engaged after dating for two years.
