‘Kill n****rs’: Lynching threat and drawing left on board in Florida classroom

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Earlier this month, WBBH reported that the words “kill n****rs” and a drawing of a figure hanging from a tree by a noose were scrawled on a whiteboard in a classroom at Florida Gulf Coast University.

This week, campus police have announced that there will be no criminal investigation after the racist threat.

In a statement released Wednesday, President Wilson Bradshaw commented on the“deeply disturbing” incident.

“While occurrences such as this are very rare at FGCU, we strongly condemn this hateful expression which is contrary to the civil and mutually respectful culture of our campus community,” Bradshaw said. He also assured students that patrols would be increased on the premises.

“The fact that it is in relation to the way I identify, yeah that’s harsh, that’s… kinda scary,” a student named Cassie told the news station.

However police chief Steven Moore explains that technically no crime was committed.

“This was on a white board with the proper type of pens so easily erased, therefore, no vandalism,” he explained. “As there is no crime, there is no hate crime.”
