NY firefighter allegedly set his home on fire then blamed Black Lives Matter

A New York firefighter was arrested for allegedly setting fire to his home and then blaming the blaze on the Black Lives Matter movement.

Jason Stokes is accused of having set fire to his home in August while his family was still home, though everyone inside was able to get out safely. At the time, they claimed that they were targeted for flying a “Blue Lives Matter” flag in their front yard, and a family member claimed to have found a note reading “lie with pigs, fry like bacon.”

Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell said that the statement was real but that he believed Stokes wrote the note himself to try to cover up his own actions.

“That statement to me is absolutely despicable,” Cornwell told 12 News. “It fuels a false narrative when it comes to the work that police officers do.”

Cornwell said that the house appeared to be booby trapped and that there were several cans of gas at the home. Since then, an investigation into the blaze has been completed, and Stokes has been charged with second-degree arson as of last Thursday.
