On Monday, Martin Luther King III met with President-elect Donald Trump inside of Trump Tower on the holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s Civil Rights legacy.

“In the heat of emotion a lot of things get said on both sides. At some point, I am, as well as John Lewis and many others, a bridge builder,” King told reporters after his meeting with Trump.

“The goal is to bring America together. We are a great nation, but we must become a greater nation. What my father represented, my mother represented with her life, is what I’m trying to do, which is always to bring people together.”

King’s meet up with Trump comes after it was announced that the president-elect’s scheduled visit to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. on Martin Luther King Day had been cancelled because of “scheduling issues.”

To mark the holiday, Trump also posted a message to Twitter: “Celebrate Martin Luther King Day and all of the many wonderful things that he stood for. Honor him for being the great man that he was!”

Monday’s meeting will see those in attendance discussing voting issues and “the legacy of Dr. King,” according to Trump’s incoming press secretary Sean Spicer.
