A woman named @Oranicuuh on Twitter challenged woman everywhere to freestyle rap about their insecurities to Beyonce’s “Ego,” and the results have been an #EgoChallenge of empowerment and talent.
In the video that kicked it all off, @Oranicuuh issued a challenge in the caption: “I wanna start the #egochallenge. We all have flaws and it’s better to brag about them to be insecure. Y’all should join in!”
Then, she laid down these lyrics:
Yeah I got a gap but I still get y’all to bite
Yeah I’m chubby but I think it helps to keep my pockets tight
I’m dark as night, I’m chocolate talk about an overdose of melanin
She was flooded with responses. Not only were people all over praising her for her bravery in opening up about her own insecurities but women, especially black women, were following her lead. The #EgoChallenge took off as woman everywhere opened up about their own insecurities and secret worried, creating a challenge fueled not by the things we dislike about ourselves but about acknowledging that we are better than those doubts and better than how others see us.
