Patriots’ Devin McCourty won’t attend Super Bowl trip to White House

Just on the heels of his teammate Martellus Bennett's decision not to go to the White House after the Patriots' Super Bowl win, Devin McCourty announced that he, too, would not be going with the team to the White House.

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Just on the heels of his teammate Martellus Bennett’s decision not to go to the White House after the Patriots’ Super Bowl win, Devin McCourty announced that he, too, would not be going with the team to the White House.

“I’m not going to the White House,” McCourty told TIME Magazine. “Basic reason for me is I don’t feel accepted in the White House. With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won’t.

“I can’t imagine a way I go there.”

Donald Trump has expressed his support for and love of the team in the past, and some players, most notably Tom Brady, have expressed support for Trump. But it’s entirely possible, even likely, that McCourty and Bennett are not the only ones that feel they cannot attend. We’ll just have to see if any more of them speak out against the trip.
